Coming To Blow The F-150 Raptor Away With A Hellcat V8
The long-awaited 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX has been spied testing for the very first time and despite the company’s best attempts to hide it underbody cladding, a number of upgrades are visible.
These spy images reveal the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX will benefit from significant suspension upgrades including new control arms and suspension links at the rear. In addition, larger front control arms are present as are billet shock-absorber mounts. This prototype is also sitting on a set of Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud-terrain tires and while not visible in these photos, it’s very likely the TRX will get taller springs and long-travel shocks.
Of course, the real aspect of the flagship Ram 1500 that has everybody talking is its powertrain.
Ever since the TRX Concept was unveiled in 2016, the world has been clamoring for a Hellcat-powered pickup and that appears to be exactly what we’re getting. Our spy photographers on the ground report the engine powering this prototype sounded just like the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 of the Challenger and Charger Hellcat models. In the concept, this engine was de-tuned to 585 hp but the full 707 hp is expected to be on offer in the final production model.
If that proves to be the case, the Ram Rebel TRX will leave the Ford F-150 Raptor in its dust as it delivers ‘just’ 450 hp and 510 lb-ft (691 Nm) from its 3.5-liter EcoBoost six-cylinder.
Many visual upgrades will be made to the flagship Ram as well with recent sketches promoting FCA’s Drive for Design Contest thought to have previewed the TRX. Among the most significant upgrades made will be a blacked-out front grille, hood vents, a pair of tow hooks, and a skid plate at the front. Also featured will be flared arches, graphics, and beadlock wheels.
A launch date for the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX remains unconfirmed but we do expect to see it unveiled later this year.
